Premier League: Debut Of New Leeds United Coach, Jesse Marsch, Marred By 0-1 Defeat To Leicester City
JAKARTA - Leicester City managed to get full points after a narrow 1-0 win over Leeds United in the 28th week of the English Premier League at the King Power Stadium on Saturday night WIB, as reported by Antara.
The only goal in this match was scored by Harvey Barnes in the second half.
This victory puts the Foxes in 10th place with 33 points. While Leeds remains in 16th position with 23 points from 27 matches.
The match will be Jesse Marsch's first as Leeds coach after being appointed on 28 February. The coach from the United States replaced Marcelo Bielsa who was sacked the day before.
Leicester's first chance was created in the 19th minute. Jamie Vardy played a one-two with Harvey Barnes before firing a cross into the box. Marc Albrighton greeted him, but the pace of the ball was still too fast.
Leeds hit back three minutes later. Jack Harrison tried to outwit goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the penalty box, but failed to do so. Harrison then passed the ball to Rodrigo who immediately opened fire. Unfortunately, the experiment was still soaring from the Leicester goal.
Before the first half ended, Leicester almost scored. Wilfred Ndidi headed the ball from a corner, but goalkeeper Illan Meslier was able to deny it. The score remains 0-0.
Leeds provided a threat in the 58th minute. Rodrigo headed home from a corner, but Schmeichel was still quick to keep the net.
The visitors pressed again two minutes later. This time Schmeichel saved the net from Raphinha's close-range shot. Fixed position glasses.
Leicester finally broke the deadlock in the 67th minute. Barnes worked well with Iheanancho and stabbed into the box before his shot from a difficult position found Meslier. The score becomes 1-0.
Leeds United tried to catch up with the remaining time, but they failed to do so and the game ended with a 1-0 scoreline for Leicester City to win.
