Indonesia Moves Towards A Green Economy, Jokowi: This Will Be Our Strength
JAKARTA - The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that in the future green products will become the strength of the Indonesian nation. Therefore, Indonesia also needs to build a strong foundation starting from now.
"What does a green economy look like? These products are produced from factories with green energy, all of which are environmentally friendly," said President Joko Widodo when giving a speech at the TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting (Rapim) at TNI-Polri Headquarters Plaza, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Tuesday. , March 1st.
He continued, currently the government is preparing the construction of a green industrial park in North Kalimantan which also uses green energy. The project was built to support the use of new and renewable energy (EBT). The President said that the industrial area would be supported by hydropower from the Kayan River in North Kalimantan.
"The Kayan River will produce approximately 11,000 to 12,000 megawatts," he said.
The President added that green energy or renewable energy that is environmentally friendly is Indonesia's strength that other countries do not have.
"There are winds, there are underwater currents, there is heat from the sea surface, everything can be used for green energy, there is solar power from the sun. This is the strength of this country that other countries do not have," he continued.
Jokowi added that the potential for geothermal energy in Indonesia alone reaches 29,000 MW. According to Jokowi, the initiation of the development of green industrial areas really needs to be rushed. Because, in the next decade, he predicts that products that are not environmentally friendly will not sell anymore.
"Therefore, the foundation must be started as soon as possible and it is the duty of the ladies and gentlemen to maintain that we can really build this foundation," concluded Jokowi.
