'IKN Is Not Just Moving Buildings From Jakarta, Our Big Vision Is Equity,' Jokowi Says About Moving The Capital City
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo emphasized that the main goal of moving the country's capital city (IKN) to the Archipelago, East Kalimantan is not just moving the government structure and its physical buildings.
Jokowi said the relocation of the capital was carried out to achieve equity. Because, so far the largest economic turnover has occurred on the island of Java.
"We know we want equality not Java-centric but Indonesian-centric. Not just moving buildings from Jakarta. Big vision is not there," said Jokowi at the TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting (Rapim) at the TNI-Polri Headquarters Plaza, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Tuesday, March 1. .
Jokowi explained that currently 58 percent of Indonesia's economic turnover is in Java. This is what causes everyone to want to live and earn money in Java, especially Jakarta as the capital city.
Therefore, Jokowi continued, with the relocation of the capital city, the economic cycle could spread to other areas, especially the archipelago.
"The magnet is not only Jakarta, there is Nusantara. There are two magnets. You can go there, you can come here. It means that the economic cycle is not only in Java," he said.
On that occasion, Jokowi said the relocation of the capital city was also able to even out population density. Then, the archipelago will later be formed into a city that has 70 percent of the green area.
Then, 80 percent of transportation is public transportation. then, 80 percent of the energy used is new and renewable energy (EBT). Also, Nusantara is a city that was initiated as a "ten minutes city".
"The priority is pedestrians, the highest number, the second is riding a bicycle, the third who likes to take public transportation. So, not those who take private cars," he added.
