Russia Plans To Invade Civilian Territory In The Ukrainian Capital, Kyiv, Here's Why
JAKARTA - Until the fifth day of Russia's attack on Ukraine on Monday, February 28, 2022, troops from the Red Bear Country have begun to enter the capital city of Kyiv. Russia claims that it has control of Ukrainian airspace.
“All Kyiv civilians are allowed to leave the city via the freeway to Vasilkyv. This route is safe for civilians to traverse," said Igor Konashenkov, a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry.
Vasilkyv is a city located in the southwest of Kyiv. In this small town of about 30 thousand people lies a Ukrainian military air base. In the battle of February 26, 2022, Russia managed to capture the Vasilkyv air base, rendering Ukrainian warplanes unable to fly.
Konashenkov said that Russia is currently targeting to seize some civilian areas in Kyiv. The reason given by Konashenkov was that the Ukrainians were arming civilians at several points in the city of Kyiv to fight the Russians.
In Konashenkov's view, Ukraine deliberately used human shields to deal with the Russian invasion.
Konashenkov cited the Ukrainian Government's advice to Kyiv citizens to stay at home and observe the curfew. The suggestion for Russia is proof of the veracity of claims that civilians are being used to protect Ukrainian nationalists, who have stationed artillery detachments and military equipment in residential areas.
He added that the Ukrainian capital has been controlled by "looters, robbers and nationalists who have received weapons" from the government.
