Election Postponement Issues, PDIP Secretary General Hasto: Government And DPR Have Agree On Election 14 February 2024

JAKARTA - PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto emphasized that his party adheres to the constitution and does not want to betray the spirit of reform which has decided to limit the term of office of the President of the Republic of Indonesia. This was said by Hasto in response to the discourse on postponing the 2024 election which was initiated by a number of high-ranking political parties. For PDIP, he said, the priority of the current practice of power is with the people to overcome the various impacts of the pandemic. "And how the government focuses on overcoming the scarcity of cooking oil, the increase in soybean prices which have an impact on the people's industry, tofu and tempeh, and various other important issues rather than imagining about postponement of the election," Hasto told reporters, Sunday, February 27.

He explained that various issues related to the increase in the basic needs of the people show how capitalism is still working strongly in the Indonesian economy. Even though President Jokowi has worked hard to promote a more equitable economic structure. For this reason, Hasto emphasized that it is far more important to deal with people's affairs than postponing the election. "Considering that the Government and the DPR RI have agreed to hold an election on February 14, 2024," said Hasto. According to Hasto, trust in the government's performance should be part of the legacy of President Jokowi, who is known to be very competent. "And for the PDI-P, all of President Jokowi's legacy will then become the basis for the President and Vice President of the 2024 election results in continuing progress for Greater Indonesia in all aspects of life," he said.

Hasto said, PDIP wants President Jokowi, who is a PDIP cadre, to be able to carve various legacies for Indonesia. Both in infrastructure development, progress in all aspects of life and leadership in the G20.

"PDI-P supports the Jokowi-KH Maruf Amin government to be able to face the situations and challenges that have arisen due to the COVID-19 pandemic and revive and restore the national economy. That should be our joint focus," he said.
