President Jokowi Ends Russian Invasion Of Ukraine: Stops War That Hurts Humans And Dangers The World

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo through his official Twitter account @jokowi called for an end to the war in Ukraine.

"Stop war. This war torments humanity, and endangers the world," President Jokowi tweeted, quoted by Antara, Thursday, February 24.

This is related to the statement of Russian President Vladimir Putin who announced today the start of special military operations in the Donbass region of Ukraine with the aim of "demilitarization and denazification" of Ukraine.

Earlier on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, President Jokowi also conveyed his views on the crisis in Ukraine through his Twitter account.

"I share the view of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that the handling of the Ukraine crisis must be carried out carefully so that a major disaster for humanity can be avoided. However, this peace effort must be swift and cannot be delayed." President Jokowi wrote.

The statement continued President Jokowi's statement on Monday, February 21, 2022, which is also still related to the condition of Ukraine.

"Rivalry and tension in Ukraine must stop as soon as possible. All parties involved must exercise restraint and we must all contribute to peace. War must not happen." President Jokowi tweeted.

"It's time for the world to synergize and collaborate to face the pandemic. It's time for us to restore the world economy, anticipate food shortages, and prevent hunger," said the President.

In an official statement, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he acted after receiving a request for help from pro-Russian separatist groups to deal with what they described as Ukraine's growing aggression.

Putin also stressed that Russia would respond immediately if any foreign forces tried to hinder its actions

After Putin's declaration, there were a number of explosions in several regions of Ukraine starting at around 5 am local time.

Border guards revealed that Russian military forces crossed the Ukrainian border into the Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Luhansk regions.

The Ukrainian military said they managed to destroy four Russian tanks on a road near the eastern city of Kharkiv and killed 50 Russian soldiers near a town in the Luhansk region and shot down a sixth Russian warplane, also in eastern Ukraine.

In response to Putin's actions, United States President Joe Biden immediately said he condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine. President Biden also said he had contacted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

President Biden urged world leaders to stand up to Russia's aggression and support the Ukrainian people. Biden also said he would meet the leaders of the G7 countries on Friday (25/2).

The United States and its allies also plan to impose tough sanctions on Russia.
