Receives Verdict Of 3.5 Years In Prison, Azis Syamsuddin Waits For KPK Execution

JAKARTA - Former Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Azis Syamsuddin, has not appealed the verdict handed down in the bribery case. He was sentenced by a panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court with a sentence of 3.5 years in prison.

"After careful consideration, we have decided not to appeal," said Azis Syamsuddin's lawyer, Sirra Prayuna in a written statement, Wednesday, February 23.

Now, Sira said, Azis is just waiting for his execution to a correctional institution (lapas) to serve the sentence that has been set by the judge.

"Accepting the decision to carry out and waiting for Mr. Azis Syamsuddin to immediately be executed by the KPK prosecutor," he said.

As previously reported, Azis Syamsuddin was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison and a fine of IDR 250 million, subsidiary to four months in prison. In addition, Azis' political rights were also revoked for four years from the time he finished serving his prison term.
