Propam Revokes Permit To Use Troubled Police Guns
JAKARTA - The National Police Propam will immediately revoke permits to use firearms (senpi) for members who have mental problems. The goal is that there are no violations related to the use of weapons.
The statement was made by the Head of the Propam Police Division, Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, during the Kamtibmas Analysis and Evaluation (Anev) meeting with the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
"Supervision and mental checks on firearm holders are carried out regularly. If a member who holds a firearm then has problems with his family, and his environment, it will be immediately revoked at the first opportunity so that it will not have an impact on the institution later," said Sambo, Thursday, February 17.
The National Police Propam will also tighten the process of granting permits to use firearms. Police officers who apply must undergo a psychological test.
Then, routine checks on the license to borrow and use guns will also be carried out. So, everything related to the use of guns will be monitored.
"If the test is correct, we will check regularly," said Sambo.
However, in the process of examining the license to borrow rifles, Sambo asked all leaders at the unit and police unit levels to get involved. Because, it is realized that there are limitations to the Propam Polri.
"We internal supervisors will not be able to do it routinely, but the inherent supervision of the leaders at the unit level and this unit is very important to check it," said Sambo.
