Profile Of Dorce Gamalama, The Iconic Versatile Star
JAKARTA - Dorce Gamalama was confirmed dead on Wednesday, February 16 at 07.30 WIB. This news was confirmed by his best friend, Hetty Sundjaya on the same day.
Dorce died due to exposure to COVID-19. He, who also has Alzheimer's and diabetes, was hospitalized for three weeks.
"He contracted COVID three weeks ago. It was half past 8. I'm sorry, God. Greetings friends. Forgive his mistakes and sins so far, thank you very much," said Hetty Sundjaya.
Dorce Gamalama was born on July 21, 1963 in Solok, West Sumatra. It is not a new fact that he was born with the name Dedi Yuliardi Ashadi and the youngest of six children.
After that, he underwent a sex change operation and changed his name to Dorce Gamalama, which was inspired by the name of Mount Gamalama on the island of Ternate. He then moved to Jakarta in 1990 to pursue a career in the entertainment world starting from the big screen.
Dorce also starred in two films titled Dorce Sok Familiar and Dorce Meets a Match. Meanwhile, he was also trusted to launch his debut single titled Cintaku Kendur di Jalan.
Dorce Gamalama's name became increasingly popular among the public when he hosted the Dorce Show in January 2005. His quirky style and distinctive speech left a distinct impression on the audience.
Throughout his career, Dorce released nine albums in five months so that he was awarded the Indonesian Record Museum (MURI).
Apart from entertainment activities, Dorce also founded the Dorce Halimatussa'diyah Foundation where he cares for 1600 orphans.
Towards the end of his life, Dorce was in and out of hospital due to diabetes he had been suffering from for the past seven years. He also has Alzheimer's and other complications.
Dorce Gamalama died of exposure to COVID-19. He left three children at the age of 58 years.
