KPK: Local Government Assets Must Be Administered Orderly
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has asked local governments to regulate and manage their assets. The goal is that the assets owned can become an optimal source of regional income.
He conveyed this in front of officials in the Aceh Provincial Government during the Coordination Meeting of the Integrated Corruption Eradication Program.
"Assets belonging to the regional government must be administered in an orderly manner so that they can then be managed and used to provide income for the regional treasury," said Nawawi in a written statement, Friday, February 11.
On that occasion, Nawawi said there are still many overlapping asset management between local governments or with vertical agencies and BUMN.
"Besides that, there are also assets that should be owned by local governments but in fact are controlled by other parties," he said.
The KPK, continued Nawawi, also noted that the level of land certification in the Aceh Provincial Government was still low at 29.65 percent. It didn't stop there, the agency also found that there were assets that had not been brought under control after the division of the region, for example between East Aceh-Langsa City and Lhokseumawe-North Aceh.
With this condition, the KPK then encouraged the government to immediately carry out asset management. In addition, Nawawi also asked local governments to innovate in optimizing revenue.
According to him, it is important for local governments to validate the potential types of regional taxes and then cooperate with other agencies to monitor transactions. For example, monitoring transactions in hotels, restaurants, parking, excavation C, surface and underground water usage, billing, mapping potential, as well as exchanging tax data.
In addition, the local government is also reminded to always take mitigation and preventive measures against the potential for corruption.
"The local government must promote programs to increase integrity values for officials and employees, improve governance by substantively increasing MCP, enforce discipline and law, reward and punishment, and empower the Inspectorate as a third line of defense," concluded Nawawi.
