Full Oscar 2022 Nominations, Led The Power Of Dog And Dune
JAKARTA - The Academy Awards has just released a list of nominees to compete in each category. Jane Campion's western film, The Power of the Dog and the science fiction film Denis Villeneuve Dune also dominate the 2022 Oscar nomination list.
The Power of the Dog from Netflix led the nominations to the 94th Academy Awards with 12 nominations, including best picture, best director, and recognition for all of its actors including Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi. Smit-McPhee.
Campion himself was nominated for best director for The Piano (1993). She is the first woman ever to be nominated twice for best director. Last year, Chloé Zhao became the second woman to ever win the award.
Campion's director of photography (DoP), Ari Wegner, is also the second woman ever to be nominated for best cinematography.
Meanwhile, Dune followed closely behind The Power of Dog with 10 nominations spread out mostly in technical categories.
However, Villeneuve's name was not in the nomination as best director, even though the film adapted from Frank Herbert's 1965 novel was in the best film category.
