Dorce is known to have had sex reassignment surgery and has received recognition from the state through the courts, regarding his sex change. A number of religious leaders also gave their opinion regarding this matter. Miftahul Huda, Secretary of the MUI Fatwa Commission to VOI through a virtual interview, Friday, February 4, revealed a number of fatwas from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), related to the polemic.
