Medvedev Defeats Tsitsipas, Challenges Nadal In Australian Open Final
JAKARTA - Tennis player from Russia, Daniil Medvedev successfully secured a position in the final round of the Australian Open 2022. This result was achieved by Medvedev after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas' struggle in the semifinals.
In the match which took place at Rod Laver Arena, Australia on Friday, January 28, Medvedev locked the win after passing 4 games with a duration of 2 hours 30 minutes. Where Medvedev closed the match with a score of 7-6, 4-6, 6-4, and 6-1.
In the first game, Medvedev, who was indeed more favored, started the round with difficulty. Facing Tsitsipas who is the world's fourth seed, Medvedev's efforts were not easy because the opponent continued to put pressure until the two scores were chasing. However, the first game went to Medvedev with the score 7-6 after his backhand shot that Tsitsipas failed to anticipate.
Shifting to the second game, now it was Tsitsipas' turn who tried his best to turn things around and managed to steal two points at the beginning of the game. Medvedev had time to chase points but Tsitsipas' toughness brought him 4-6 ahead in the second game.
Entering the third game, this is the most exciting moment in the duel between Medvedev and Tsitsipas. Because it was Medvedev who was left behind
again trying to take over the fight, it looks like the effort was successful because with his Forehand Medvedev closed the game with a score of 6-4.
Having two points ahead from three games, Medvedev is clearly aiming for a definite win in the fourth game, but he tries to play more loosely. While Tsitspas continued to give fierce resistance until the end of the duel was closed through Medvedev's backhand shot which he failed to anticipate, the score of 6-1 in the fourth game finally decided Medvedev's victory. In the final match later, Medvedev in fact has been awaited by Rafael Nadal.
In the final which will take place on Sunday, January 30, both Nadal and Medvedev will fight fiercely for the cash prize of US$2.875 million.
But it's not just the prize that is being sought, this time Medvedev also has the ambition to win the Grand Slam. Because last year he was defeated by Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic in the final of the Australian Open. This was reported by the ATP, Saturday, January 29.
