Charity Box Thief In Several Mosques In Medan Arrested By Police

MEDAN - The man with the initials YB (35) was arrested by the Medan Helvetia Police Sector team. He was arrested for stealing charity boxes at a number of mosques in Medan City, North Sumatra.

The Head of the Medan Helvetia Police, Kompol Heri E Sihombing, said the perpetrator YB was arrested based on the report of a victim named Sahrul Hamid (40).

The theft of the charity box was discovered when the victim saw a man riding a motorbike. The man then entered the mosque and pretended to pray.

"Not long after, the mosque guard came to the mosque and saw that 2 infaq boxes had been opened and the contents had been drained by the perpetrators," said Kompol Heri, Friday, January 28.

Feeling something was wrong, the mosque guard then saw the CCTV footage at the Amaliyah Mosque. Based on the recording, it is clear that the perpetrator stole the contents of the charity box.

The victim immediately reported the incident to the Medan Helvetia Police. From here the police are looking for the perpetrators.

"When arrested and interrogated by our members, the perpetrator admitted his actions and the perpetrator also admitted that he had committed a similar crime at the Al-Ikhkas Mosque in Cinta Damai kelurahan, Medan Helvetia District," he said.

In addition, to the police, the perpetrator admitted that he had stolen infaq boxes in 8 locations. Of the eight locations, 3 of them are in the Medan Helvetia area.

"The money from stealing the infaq box, the perpetrator uses for his daily needs. The motorbike he uses belongs to his family in Siantar," said Commissioner Heri.

For his actions, the police arrested YB for violating Article 363 paragraph 1 to 5e Jo Article 64 of the Criminal Code.
