Jakarta - Google is again expanding the capabilities of its search engine by launching a feature to track individual hotel prices. This is an innovation aimed at increasing the efficiency of travel planning while helping users save money.
This feature allows users to monitor price changes for a specific hotel - not just the average price in a city - providing a more personalized approach to determining the best time to make a reservation.
"Now users can receive automatic notifications when hotel prices rise or fall for the selected stay date," the company's official update explained.
More Personal Price Tracking Features
Unlike previous approaches based on destination price aggregation, this latest feature on Google Search focuses on user-specific preferences. This means that travelers who already have a target hotel can monitor price fluctuations in real time without having to perform repeated searches.
On the desktop, this feature can be activated through the hotel search section by entering travel details, then activating the tracking option on the "Overview" or "Prices" tabs. While on mobile devices, a similar function is available in the "Prices" tab, although its position is relatively hidden.
This integration is designed to remain integrated with the booking flow, so users don't have to switch platforms to get the latest price information.
AI integration for travel planning
In addition to price tracking, Google also introduced an artificial intelligence-based itinerary planning feature. This system is able to provide direct travel recommendations in search results, ranging from destinations to visitation routes.
Users can also take advantage of an interactive map to find interesting locations around the destination, as well as a flight tracking feature that provides real-time updates.
This move confirms Google's strategy of integrating AI into everyday experiences, including the increasingly digitized tourism sector.
Implications for the Travel Industry
The presence of this feature has the potential to change consumer behavior in ordering accommodations. With higher price transparency, users have a stronger bargaining position, while booking platforms are required to be more competitive.
On the other hand, this data- and AI-based approach shows how the digital ecosystem continues to move towards full personalization - where every travel decision is informed by relevant, real-time data.
