JAKARTA - Deep Silver publisher and 4A Games developer officially announced their latest game in the Metro series titled METRO 2039 will be released in the coming winter.

This story-based first-person shooter is confirmed to be available on various platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store.

The announcement featured a single-player campaign that takes a story-driven approach with a claustrophobic atmosphere and the psychological horror feel of the Metro series.

"METRO 2039 is hand-crafted and focused on story, gripping immersive atmosphere, and psychological horror," the publisher wrote in its announcement.

In the six-minute trailer and gameplay footage shared, the game blends cinematic real-time scenes and live gameplay.

The footage shows a gloomy underground environment, improved visual quality, and iconic Metro series equipment, including signature weapons and character watches while facing mutants.

The game is set in 2039, about 25 years after a nuclear war. Where survivors live in Metro tunnels under the poisoned city of Moscow.

Underground factions are under one power named Novoreich led by Hunter, a legendary Spartan who became the new Fuhrer, promising a new life on the surface.

Here, you'll play as the main character named The Stranger, a loner haunted by nightmares and forced back into the Metro on a dangerous journey.

4A Games says the development of METRO 2039 was also influenced by real-life situations, including Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The studio, which is majority-owned by a Ukrainian team, says the game's story will highlight the choices, consequences, and the price that must be paid for the future.

Even though it is delivered from the perspective of Ukraine, the developer insists that the game still maintains the identity of the Metro series.
