JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) emphasized that the display of the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS) rating on a number of games on the Steam platform is not an official classification that has been verified by the Indonesian government.

Director of Digital Ecosystem Development at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Sonny Hendra Sudaryana, said that the results of the monitoring showed that the ratings displayed on the platform were still from internal mechanisms based on self-declared and had not gone through the official verification process according to the provisions in Indonesia.

"The rating in circulation is not the result of the official classification of IGRS. This has the potential to cause public misunderstanding, especially regarding the age eligibility of a game," said Sonny in a statement confirmed in Jakarta, Sunday.

Kemkomdigi emphasized that every digital business actor has the obligation to provide accurate, clear, and non-misleading information, as well as ensuring user protection.

This obligation is regulated in various regulations, including Law Number 1 of 2024 (Revision of the ITE Law), Minister of Communication and Information Decree Number 2 of 2024 concerning the Classification of Games, and Minister of Communication and Information Decree Number 5 of 2020 concerning the Private Sector Electronic System Operator.

Based on these provisions, the Ministry of Communication and Information considers that there are indications of incompatibility between the information displayed and regulations in Indonesia, such as the display of unofficial ratings and the use of IGRS labels without verification processes.

Kemkomdigi will ask for clarification from Steam and conduct further discussions to ensure compliance with national regulations.

"We ask platforms to ensure that any information displayed to the public is accurate and accountable. This is not just about compliance, but also responsibility in protecting users, especially children," said Sonny.

If during the evaluation process violations are found, Kemkomdigi will follow up in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations, including administrative steps against non-compliant electronic system organizers.

In addition, Kemkomdigi also continues to improve the IGRS system which includes strengthening the verification and supervision mechanism to ensure that the classification system runs more accurately and reliably.

The public is urged to refer to official information through the IGRS website and the official Kemkomdigi channel. The public can submit feedback and reports if they find information to be inconsistent through the IGRS helpdesk at [email protected] or the official channel komdigi.go.id.
