Apple Launches Security Improvements for Old Devices to Prevent DarkSword Attacks

Apple released a new security update for iPhones and iPads that are stuck on an old software version. Specifically, this update is for iOS 18.7.7 and iPadOS 18.7.7 users.

This security update was launched to protect users from a sophisticated hacking tool called DarkSword. This step was taken to secure millions of old model devices that are still vulnerable to data theft through malicious websites.

DarkSword attacks work by infiltrating malicious code into legitimate websites that have been hacked by perpetrators. Users who visit the site risk losing personal messages, browsing history, location data, and cryptocurrency assets.

Sensitive data that is successfully stolen will be uploaded to the hacker's server without the user's knowledge. This hacking software is detected targeting users in various countries, including China, Malaysia, and Ukraine.

Apple insists that users who are already running the latest operating system, iOS 26, have been protected since a few weeks ago. This update also targets users who stick to iOS 18 to avoid the Liquid Glass design.

For users who have enabled the automatic update feature, this new software should have been installed independently. However, you can check for updates manually through the device settings.

Apple also recommends users to use the Lock Mode feature. According to the company, this feature will be very useful in providing additional protection when facing high-level cyber attacks.
