JAKARTA - OpenAI has completed a round of funding of 122 billion US dollars (Rp. 2,069 trillion) from global investors. This record-breaking funding round boosted OpenAI's valuation.
The value of the company that developed ChatGPT now touches a pretty fantastic figure, namely 852 billion US dollars (Rp. 14,455 trillion). The amount of funding comes from three major companies, including Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank Group.
Amazon invested IDR 848 trillion, while Nvidia and SoftBank contributed IDR 509 trillion. This funding will be allocated for the procurement of chips, the construction of data centers, and the recruitment of talent in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Interestingly, OpenAI not only gets funding from large companies. They managed to raise more than Rp50 trillion from individual investors through the banking channel for the first time. OpenAI shares are known to be included in several exchange-traded funds (ETFs) owned by Ark Invest.
OpenAI's Chief Financial Officer, Sarah Friar, said from the Straits Times, that this deal provides high flexibility amid global market uncertainty. The funding value is claimed to be far beyond the largest initial public offering (IPO) record ever in the world.
Although it has not yet pocketed large profits, OpenAI's monthly revenue now reaches 2 billion US dollars (Rp33.9 trillion). The business customer sector now accounts for 40 percent of total revenue and is predicted to continue to increase until the end of the year.
To increase revenue, OpenAI also began introducing an advertising program on ChatGPT that generated IDR 1.6 trillion in six weeks. OpenAI also began simplifying its product by developing a desktop application called 'accesspot'.
