JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Information Technology (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasized that the Indonesian government will not compromise with digital platforms that do not comply with the mandate to protect children in the digital space in line with Government Regulation number 17 of 2025 concerning the Protection of the Governance of the Implementation of Electronic Systems in the Protection of Children (PP Tunas).
PP Tunas is effective from March 28, 2026 and every business entity that operates digitally must comply with the provisions of the regulation.
"The government instructs all digital platforms that do business in Indonesia to immediately align products, features, and services in accordance with applicable regulations. There is no compromise in terms of compliance, and that every business entity operating in Indonesia must comply with applicable laws in Indonesia," said Meutya, quoted by Antara, Friday, March 27.
The Minister of Communication further stated that digital platforms should not make distinctions in order to comply with rules that protect children in any part of the world.
As a digital platform presents features that are released globally, compliance to protect children in the digital space should be enforced without discrimination.
"We ask platforms to enforce the principle of full child custody, namely universality and also non-discrimination. So there is no distinction 'that the child protection rules in other countries are followed, but in other countries they are not followed'," said Meutya.
The Minister of Communication and Information believes that with the principle of universality, digital platforms operating in Indonesia can meet the basic compliance to protect children in the digital space.
The government continues to appeal to digital platforms that have not met the provisions of the Tunas PP to immediately follow the applicable rules.
If this is not obeyed, Meutya ensures that in the future the Government will firmly take action against digital platforms in line with Indonesian legislation, namely referring to the Minister's Regulation and Regulation which have the force of law.
"The government has the authority to take enforcement measures in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations, including the imposition of sanctions," said Meutya.
On this occasion, Meutya also gave appreciation to two digital platforms, namely X and Bigo Live, which have full compliance with PP Tunas. He also welcomed TikTok and Roblox platforms, which are categorized as platforms that are partially cooperative with PP Tunas.
Meanwhile, the other four platforms, Facebook, Threads, Instagram, and YouTube, have not yet met the provisions of the PP Tunas.
In the Minister of Communication and Information Regulation number 9 of 2026 as the implementing regulation of the Tunas PP, it is explained that several sanctions that apply to platforms that do not comply with the rules include administrative sanctions in the form of a letter of reprimand, temporary suspension of access, to termination of access.
This rule is effective from March 28, 2026, limiting children from high-risk digital platforms, especially for the initial implementation, which applies to eight digital platforms, namely YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Threads, Instagram, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox.
