JAKARTA - OpenAI officially introduced Prism, an artificial intelligence (AI) based workspace designed specifically to help scientists and researchers write and collaborate on scientific research.

Powered by GPT-5.2, Prism offers unlimited projects and collaborators and is already available for anyone with a personal ChatGPT account.

In the future, more advanced AI features will be available through the paid ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, and Education packages, which are scheduled to launch in the near future.

OpenAI said that Prism is an effort to address the fragmentation of work tools in scientific research. Until now, research activities still depend on various separate tools, ranging from writing papers, revising arguments, managing equations and citations, and coordinating with collaborators.

"Researchers often move back and forth between editors, PDFs, LaTeX compilers, reference managers, and separate chat interfaces, losing context and distracting from focus," the company wrote in its official announcement.

Prism is also built on the foundation of Crixet, a cloud-based LaTeX platform acquired by OpenAI and later evolved into Prism as an integrated product.

Through Prism, researchers can discuss with GPT-5.2 to explore ideas, test hypotheses, and solve complex scientific problems.

This AI can also help compose and revise papers by considering the overall document, including references and illustrations.

Prism allows the search and integration of scientific literature - for example from arXiv - directly into the manuscript being worked on.

In addition, users can create and revise mathematical equations, citations, and images with the help of AI that understands the interrelationships of these elements throughout the document.

"Collaborate with co-authors, students, and advisors in real-time, with edits, comments, and revisions reflected instantly," he continued.

Prism is said to be an initial step towards accelerating scientific discovery through the reduction of friction in daily research work.

"More advanced AI features will be available through the paid ChatGPT package over time. We are excited to learn from researchers using Prism," OpenAI concluded.
