JAKARTA - Pinterest is planning to lay off 15 percent of its employees. This plan is reportedly to be carried out before the end of the year as part of efficiency.
Pinterest deliberately reduced the number of its employees to focus on developing more advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. Based on official documents that came out on January 27, this reduction in staff is targeted to be completed by September 30, 2026
In addition to employee cuts, the company will also reduce office operating costs to save money. The estimated number of workers affected reached 780 out of a total of 5,205 employees as of September 2025.
The savings fund obtained from this cut will be allocated to a team focused on adopting and implementing AI strategies. This step is in line with Pinterest CEO Bill Ready's statement some time ago regarding Pinterest which will transform into an AI-based shopping assistant.
Bill stated that visual search technology has helped 600 million consumers find products that match their desires. Therefore, Pinterest's focus is now more on developing AI-based tools.
In October 2025, the company launched a dedicated AI assistant in the US to provide shopping recommendations. The technology works like a personal stylist by analyzing the inspiration boards and collages saved by users.
However, this transition to AI has received complaints because some parties claim to have difficulty finding original works because Pinterest is starting to be filled with AI. To overcome this, Pinterest has started to apply a special label to images that are modified or generated by AI.
The English, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and French versions are automatically generated by the AI. So there may still be inaccuracies in translating, please always see Indonesian as our main language. (system supported by DigitalSiber.id)
