JAKARTA - Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Arif Satria encourages researchers in the field of aerospace to apply technology forecasting in making decisions.
According to Arif, mistakes in determining policies in the sector can cause huge losses for the country. This is because this complex sector requires high costs so that policy errors can have a very big impact.
"We need a roadmap for aerospace, a roadmap for satellites, a roadmap for rockets, and a roadmap for aviation until 2030. We need to plan clearly what will be done," said Arif, quoted on Tuesday, January 27.
Arif added that technology forecasting is very important to read the direction of the development of the space sector globally in the future. That way, Indonesia is not only a spectator in this sector, but can also compete actively.
Apart from technology, the success of research also depends on supporting ecosystems such as human resources, according to Arif. Managing budget priorities is also important because some research equipment has reached the end of its useful life.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Aeronautics and Space Research Organization (ORPA) BRIN, Robertus Heru Triharjanto, invited researchers to be more sensitive in reading technological trends. Researchers are considered to need to predict the needs of technology for the next five to ten years.
This is considered important because Robertus wants to reduce Indonesia's dependence on imported space technology. To achieve this vision, collaboration is needed so that the research produced remains relevant and in accordance with needs.
"We need to anticipate what our nation and the global community will need in the next five to ten years, so that we can become one of the players," said Robertus.
