JAKARTA - Spotify has strengthened the social side of its platform by launching a new feature that allows users to share music listening activities in real time with friends. This feature comes in two new options called Listening Activity and Request to Jam, and has begun to be rolled out for Spotify app users on iOS and Android.

Through the Listening Activity feature, users can display the song or podcast that is playing directly to friends who are connected through the Messages feature. If the user is not playing music, the system will display the last song that was listened to. This feature is optional and can only be seen by friends or family members who are already connected.

Interestingly, users can still see their friends' listening activity even if they haven't enabled Listening Activity on their own account. This feature can be turned on or off at any time through the Privacy and Social menu in the Spotify app.

In addition, Spotify also introduced the Request to Jam feature to provide a synchronized experience of listening to music together. Through this feature, users can invite friends or family to join in a live listening session.

Users can see who is listening to the music, join the session, and discuss in real time about the song that is playing and the next song list.

The Request to Jam feature is available for Spotify Premium users. To get started, users simply open a conversation in Messages and tap the Jam option. An invitation will be sent to a friend, who can accept or decline the request. If accepted, the invitee will become the host of the Jam session.

Spotify states that these two new features aim to make music discovery more social and interactive. Listening Activity and Request to Jam are currently being launched in markets that support the Messages feature and are available for users aged 16 and over.
