JAKARTA - Qualcomm officially introduced the Snapdragon X2 Plus at the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). This latest chip is aimed at mid-range and mainstream Windows laptops, with a focus on improved performance, AI capabilities, and much better power efficiency. Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon X2 Plus is able to use up to 43 percent less power than the previous generation.
The Snapdragon X2 Plus comes in two main variants, namely a 10-core model for users who need higher performance, as well as a 6-core version designed for ultra-thin laptops at a more affordable price. Both are built using the third-generation Oryon CPU architecture, which offers significant performance improvements without sacrificing battery life.
Qualcomm said that the 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus variant is capable of delivering a single-core performance increase of up to 35 percent compared to the previous generation. On the efficiency side, lower power consumption allows the laptop to stay cool and last much longer on a single charge. For light use, laptops based on this chip are claimed to potentially last for several days.
The main focus of the Snapdragon X2 Plus is also on artificial intelligence capabilities. Both models are equipped with Hexagon NPU with a capacity of up to 80 TOPS (trillion operations per second), a drastic increase from 45 TOPS in the first generation. This capacity is equivalent to that offered on the Snapdragon X2 Elite flagship chip, so that mid-range laptops can also run advanced AI features.
This AI capability is intended to support the concept of "agentic AI", an AI system that not only responds to commands, but is also able to help manage user workflows. Examples include advanced photo editing, real-time language translation, and system security improvements.
In early performance tests ahead of CES, the 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus variant showed competitive results. For multi-core tasks, its performance is said to be able to rival the latest generation of Intel Core Ultra 7 processors. Although these results come from a reference design with an optimal scenario, these data show that the Windows on ARM ecosystem is maturing and worth considering by general users.
In terms of graphics, the Snapdragon X2 Plus is equipped with an Adreno X2-45 GPU. Although it is not intended for heavy-duty gaming, its graphics performance has increased by almost 30 percent in the 10-core variant. This makes it quite capable for light creative, multimedia, and casual entertainment needs.
Qualcomm stated that the first laptop using the Snapdragon X2 Plus will be available on the market in the first half of 2026. A number of major manufacturers, including HP, have showcased new laptop designs that carry this chip, such as the OmniBook 5 series.
With improved performance, significant power efficiency, and advanced AI support, the Snapdragon X2 Plus is seen as one of the keys to pushing ARM-based laptops to become the top choice for students, professionals, and everyday productivity users.
