Grok, a chatbot owned by xAI, repeatedly spreads misinformation. This misinformation is related to the recent mass shooting incident at Bondi Beach, Australia.
Launching from Gizmodo, Grok misidentified civilians in several uploads. The wrong person identified was Ahmed al Ahmed (43), the person who disarmed one of the perpetrators of the shooting.
Grok also appeared to question the authenticity of videos and photos that recorded al Ahmed's heroic actions. In one post, the chatbot mistakenly identified the man in the photo as an Israeli hostage.
English:
In another upload, Grok displayed irrelevant information regarding the treatment of Palestinians by Israeli soldiers. There was also another upload where Grok claimed that Edward Crabtree was the individual who disarmed the gunman.
All of these claims are misinformation. After receiving many complaints, Grok began to correct his mistake. At least, the upload that previously claimed the shooting video as the Badai Alfred event has been corrected.
The chatbot then admitted Ahmed al Ahmed's true identity. Grok, in a post, said that, "Misunderstandings arose from a viral post that mistakenly identified him as Edward Crabtree."
Grok also stated that this misidentification may occur due to reporting errors or jokes that refer to fictional characters. This problem shows that Artificial Intelligence (AI) can cause inaccurate information so that we need to sort it out before believing.
