Government Aims To Lower Judol Funds By IDR 200 Trillion By The End Of 2025

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Nezar Patria, said the government is targeting a decrease in the circulation of online gambling funds, which was previously projected to reach IDR 1,200 trillion, to drop to IDR 200 trillion by the end of 2025.

He emphasized that the government's efforts to reduce the value of the turnover of online gambling transactions were not merely enforcing the rules, but also to protect families, students, and workers from debt bondage and loss of assets due to illegal practices.

Online gambling is a serious threat to the socio-economic stability of the community. We have often heard online gambling victims commit crimes because they are pressed after losing, "said Nezar in his official broadcast quoted Monday, December 1.

Together with the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Bank Indonesia (BI), and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), this effort is expected to reduce the socio-economic risk for the community.

According to Nezar, digitalization of banking makes it easier for people to carry out financial transactions, which also causes increased crime scam activities, including phishing, social engineering, and love scams.

"This love scam he uses a seduction approach and there are a lot of people affected, mostly household assistants, there are also many teenagers, children, even adults who are entangled in these various modes," he explained.

To prevent illegal transactions from happening, the Deputy Minister of Nezar invited the players in the financial services sector to strengthen the security system.

Both from the side of knowing your customer (KYC), customer due diligence (CDD) to enhanced due diligence (EDD), so that the perpetrators cannot use the banking account as a collector of money from the proceeds of crime.

"The financial services sector is the last and most crucial guard in breaking this chain of crime. Digital crime always leads to financial transactions," he said.

From October 2024 to November 2025, the Ministry of Communication and Industry has handled more than 2.4 million content related to online gambling in the form of websites, applications, and social media accounts.

Meanwhile, PPATK stated that until the third quarter of 2025, the number of online gambling transactions had been reduced to Rp155 trillion, down 57% from the previous Rp359 trillion throughout 2024.
