Apple Will Limit OLED Screens Only For MacBook Pro M6 Pro And M6 Max

Jakarta Apple seems to be preparing new steps that could spark debate among MacBook fans. Based on Mark Gurman's latest report in Bloomberg's Power On bulletin, the OLED display will only be present on the MacBook Pro variants of the M6 Pro and M6 Max, while the standard M6 model is said to still use conventional LCD TFT screens.

This news indicates that Apple will treat OLED technology as an exclusive premium feature for high-end users of the strategy that is not foreign to the Cupertino giant. According to Gurman, the MacBook Pro with the OLED screen will be released at the end of 2026 or early 2027, along with a new design called thinner and the possibility of the presence of a touch screen feature that for years has only been a rumor.

Meanwhile, the M5 Pro and M5 Max series are reportedly still retaining current MacBook Pro designs and will launch in the first half of 2026, side by side with the MacBook Air M5. In the middle of the year, Apple will also introduce Mac mini M5 and M5 Pro, followed by Mac Studio M5 Max and M5 Ultra before finally entering the M6 cycle starting with the 14-inch entry-level MacBook Pro model.

Apple's move to limit OLED to only the two highest variants is considered as a way to strengthen their price net'. This strategy is similar to the differentiation of features between the iPhone Pro and its regular version, or between the MacBook Air and Pro.

With this step, Apple seems to want to make the OLED screen a more visual appeal than just an increase in chip performance. The OLED screen is known to offer a thicker color, higher contrast, and better power efficiency, so that it can be a strong reason for professional users to upgrade to the M6 Pro or M6 Max model.

If true, this decision could add to the exclusivity of Apple's premium series, but also make consumers who want the best technology have to spend more. With the current MacBook Pro price starting from USD 1.599 and rising to thousands of dollars for Max's version, later the OLED sailing model could become a new symbol of the top class in the Mac ecosystem
