YouTube Shopping In Indonesia Grows 5 Times In Just A Year

JAKARTA - Just like TikTok, YouTube has also begun to penetrate into social commerce, releasing the YouTube Shopping affiliate feature in Indonesia in October 2024.

Indonesia is the first country in Southeast Asia to have this affiliate program. Although it is only one year old, YouTube revealed that shopping content increased by more than 400 percent or 5 times.

Compared to other countries, Veronica said that Indonesia is a fairly strong market. This is what prompted YouTube to release the Shopping feature earlier in Indonesia compared to other countries.

Not only on the watch time side, from the e-commerce side of Shopee who is a YouTube Shopping partner also feels the effect.

In the first nine months, the number of videos with product or video signs of affiliation rose 5X, and the number of recommended products increased by 4X, especially now that one video can mark up to 60 products.

This growth is the strongest in the Muslim categoriesFashion, Mom and Baby, Mobile & Tablet, and Home Living. All processes remain within high-security standards.

This affiliate feature is only available for creators in the YouTube Partner Program, so the shopping experience remains safe.

Seeing this growth, YouTube has also officially partnered with Lazada as their YouTube Shopping partner besides Shopee. Later the creators will be able to embed the product links of the two e-commerces to increase user flexibility.

"Today, we are excited to announce that we are expanding our ecosystem to include new e-commerce partners like Lazada," said Veronica.
