Menkomdigi Meutya Asks ISP To Provide Cheaper Internet Access

JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, asked internet service providers (ISP) to provide affordable and quality internet access, especially in areas that still have high rates.

Meutya highlighted that there are still ISPs that set high prices in several areas due to a lack of competitors. He emphasized that the government understands that the development of connectivity infrastructure requires large investment, but this can be overcome through collaborative steps.

"The expensive fees are relative. Operators should be able to reduce costs in various ways, including cooperation and infrastructure sharing," he said in an official Komdigi broadcast on Tuesday, October 28.

The Minister of Trade also emphasized the importance of transparency in tariffs and service quality to customers. Even though the industry is difficult, Meutya asks the ISP to be more transparent so that it can be given relief and price adjustments.

Apart from the price issue, Meutya also emphasized that the protection of customer rights must be a major concern. "Don't let the network go down, customers are still subject to full costs. That's unfair," he said.

He hopes that ISP can become a partner of the government in building an inclusive and just digital ecosystem, where people from various levels can still enjoy internet services at reasonable prices and guaranteed quality.
