Florida Attorney General Issues Subpoena To Roblox Regarding Child Security

JAKARTA - Florida's attorney general from the Republican Party, James Uthmeier, said his office issued a criminal subpoena to Roblox Corp, calling the video game platform a "graft of predators" that harm children.

In a video posted on X, Uthmeier accused Roblox of taking advantage of children while failing to protect them. "They allow our children to be harassed," he said.

The subpoena will allow prosecutors to gather more information about alleged criminal activity on the platform, including evidence related to alleged predators and victims, according to Uthmeier.

Roblox's Demands And Security Efforts

Roblox has long faced questions about child safety, concerns highlighted by a short seller's (short seller) report from Hindenburg Research in October last year.

These concerns prompted Roblox to invest heavily in protecting younger users on its platform by tightening message rules for children under 13 years of age, intensive content moderation, and AI-powered monitoring.

A Roblox spokesperson said it prohibits sharing images and videos in chats, uses filters designed to block the exchange of personal information, and is working on implementing age estimates for all users who access chat features.

"Although there is no perfect system, our trained team and automated tools continue to monitor communications to detect and remove harmful content," a Roblox spokesperson said.

Roblox faces increased scrutiny in the US, with various lawsuits, including from the Louisiana Attorney General and previous cases in San Francisco, which accused the company of failing to implement adequate security measures and enabling sexual predators to exploit children.

Iraq has also banned Roblox last weekend, citing concerns that the platform allows direct communication between users that could expose children and adolescents to potential cyber exploitation or extortion, and saying its content "does not match social values and traditions."
