Not Limiting Freedom, It Turns Out That This Is The Reason For One Person's Rule For Social Media Accounts

JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital is still reviewing the discourse of one telephone number or Population Identification Number (NIK) which can only be used to create one social media account.

Philosotically, the Secretary General of Komdigi, Ismail stated that this discourse is a form of government effort to make digital space healthier and safer.

"When someone enters the digital space, they are no longer known, they can hide, there is such an opportunity. Now start then put content or then fill in or do something that violates the law," said Ismail at the Komdigi Ngopi Bareng event on Friday, September 19.

With this principle, Ismail hopes that all Indonesians who access and enter the digital space can become themselves, and be responsible for what they do on social media.

"The problem with the account earlier, with digital ID problems, recognize may not only be just typing, but also having to show faces, fingerprints and so on. These are tools that can be used to make when people enter the digital space responsible. The philosophy is about like that," he added.

However, Ismail also emphasized that the government has no intention of limiting people's freedom of expression and giving their opinion in the digital space.

"So that's not it (limiting), but how to make this space healthy, productive, safe," concluded Ismail.

This proposal was first submitted by a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the PKB Faction, By Soleh, in August 2025. In a Public Hearing Meeting with Google, YouTube, Meta, and TikTok, By proposing to ban the use of more than one account (dual account) on social media.

"My recommendations, Leaders, and please note the Secretariat, in the Draft (UU) are included that digital platforms cannot create dual accounts, I ask for this. Only one original account cannot have a dual account," said the meeting.
