Meta Test Image Mode In Image On Instagram Reels

JAKARTA Meta has started testing Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode to watch Reels on Instagram. Through this feature, users can watch Reels even though they have switched apps or left the Instagram app.

PiP is a feature commonly found on video platforms, such as YouTube. With this mode, the video will continue to be played in a floating window. Usually, users can move their windows to various screen sides.

Launching from 9to5mac, the PiP feature on Instagram Reels was first discovered by Radu Onescu, one of the Threads users. Radu says that he sees a pop-up containing the 'Try Image in Image' option that appears when exiting Reels.

The Pop-up also explains to users that the feature allows users to continue watching videos in floating windows. Users must press the Agree button first before the feature works.

If it is approved, the user will see the built-in Share button from Instagram. This button will later activate the Image feature in Images on the device. Although it has been seen by a number of users, it is not known when this feature will be released.

Previously, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri had hinted at the presence of this feature some time ago. He answered user questions regarding when Instagram will have a PiP feature similar to TikTok and YouTube.

At that time, Mosseri stated that he would first discuss with his team to find a solution related to the request. Now, it seems that Instagram has succeeded in developing the PiP feature that is highly anticipated by users.

Although this feature is already in the trial phase, there is no official information on when this feature will be rolled out widely. The fate of this feature will depend on the results of the trial and input from users.
