JAKARTA Google is testing a new feature on Google Maps to make it easier for users to travel. This new feature called Live Update will continue to display directional navigation on the screen.

This feature was first discovered by users of platform X, formerly known as Twitter, named Slayer. Based on the Android Authority report, this feature is being tested on a limited basis on Android Canary.

So far, the use of this feature has only been seen on Pixel and Samsung phones running Android 16 QPR2 Beta. Google seems to be expanding its testing in stages before launching its features in a more stable version.

The purpose of launching this feature is so that users do not need to open the application continuously. Previously, if the user opened another application while turning on Maps navigation, directions on the screen would disappear.

Although navigation does not disappear from notifications, this method is less efficient. With the Direct Update, Maps will ensure that time and direction information will remain visible on the screen. This notification will not disappear or move to the queue.

Thus, users can check their route or travel time quickly. This is very useful, especially for drivers who want to switch to other apps during the trip.

Keep in mind that this feature is still in a limited trial phase and Google is still monitoring reports and input from users. It is not yet certain whether this feature will reach the public version or disappear before it is expanded.
