JAKARTA - Google has just introduced Gemini for Home, a new AI assistant who will replace Google Assistant which has been used on Nest smart devices from this San Francisco company such as speakers and smart screens.

Gemini for Home is here to provide more sophisticated hands-free controls over a variety of functions such as smart light settings, audio playback, timing settings, and various other commands. Google plans to launch this latest voice assistant in October for free and paid versions.

In Made by Google's latest event, the tech giant announced Gemini for Home as a much stronger AI assistant to their smart home ecosystem. The new assistant relies on Gemini artificial intelligence capable of more advanced reasoning, inference, and better information search than Google Assistant, which has been circulating for nearly a decade.

Anish Katagan, Chief Product Officer of Google Home & Nest, stated that Gemini for Home is much better off helping daily activities. Users will still start interactions with keywords Hey Google, but the experience of interacting will feel very different and more natural than before.

Gemini for Home can work across smart home devices and for every family member and guest who comes. Google targets to replace "kating" orders with the ability to understand more complicated and nuanced demand. For example, users can say "turn off the lights except in my room" or "timer rules for perfectly boiled broccoli".

In addition, this assistant is able to create lists, calendar entries, and reminders with more conversational interactions without having to keep saying 'Hey Google'. For example, users can ask how to get your clothes off the backyard at night? or based on the weather, crowd, and hotel prices, when is the best time to vacation on Greek islands?

Google plans to launch Gemini for Home in October and gradually replace Google Assistant with this new system. Google will also open an initial access program that offers free and paid options, although the price of its paid service has not been announced. In addition, Google is also providing a teaser related to new speakers that will use Gemini technology.

Gemini for Home seems to be Google's answer to Amazon's Alexa Plus, which is already using a generative AI and has been present in millions of homes.
