Cyber War Enters AI Vs AI Era: Now Depends On Resources And Investment

JAKARTA - The cybersecurity world has now entered a new chapter. If previously the fighting took place between humans and humans, now digital war has turned into a machine against machines or AI vs AI.

This change is driven by the increasingly massive and increasingly sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) technology in everyday life, including in carrying out evil actions by cyber threat actors.

Kaspersky Country Manager, Indonesia, Defri Nofitra stated that the current implementation of AI has become a standard (default) requirement in cybersecurity systems, especially to detect anomalous behavior of users (behavior analysis).

AI is needed to recognize the pattern. For example, an employee usually only accesses the system at office hours, but suddenly there is an activity of logging in at midnight. It means that someone comes here at night. Now it can be detected with AI," explained Defri at the Kaspersky Media Meeting With Director of GREAT event on Tuesday, August 19 in Jakarta.

However, it's not just the security forces who use AI. The hackers (bad actors) are also starting to take advantage of this technology to increase their attacks.

In the past humans fought humans. But when the engine was used against humans, the humans would lose. So (now) the engine is against the machine, you know, AI is against AI," he added.

Ketika sudah memasuki masa AI vs AI dalam sektor siber, maka yang menentukan siapa yang lebih tangguh dan siapa yang lebih lemah kini sudah tergantung pada kekuatan sumber daya dan investasi.

Because according to him, the attackers are often more daring to invest more into AI tools to launch their attacks. In fact, it is possible that the perpetrators also have investors who are ready to support their actions.

"Bad actors have incentives, he dares to invest, because earlier, 'if I attack this website, if I can get it like this, please,' so he may also have investors, I don't know," he said further.

This condition prompted organizations, both the government and the private sector, to immediately strengthen their cyber defense systems with AI-based technology.
