JAKARTA - The 2025 Indonesia Internet Profile Survey issued by the Indonesian Internet Network Operators Association (APJII), stated that the internet penetration rate in Indonesia had reached 80.66 percent.

The number of internet users in Indonesia in 2025 has increased compared to the previous year, which only ranged from 79.5 percent.

This means that until now as many as 229.4 million Indonesians in all regions, from Sabang to Merauke, have been connected to the internet network.

The General Chairperson of APJII, Muhammad Arif Angga, said that through this survey, there are still around 20 percent or 55 million people who have not received internet services in Indonesia.

"This is our common homework, I have said that one of our obstacles is that telecommunications infrastructure is piling up and not evenly distributed," said Arif at the launch of the 2025 Indonesia Internet Profile Survey on Wednesday, August 6 in Jakarta.

Based on the region, this APJII survey shows that the island of Java is the island with the highest penetration rate throughout Indonesia, with 85% of its population already using the internet.

Followed by Kalimantan Island with 78.72%, Sumatra Island with 77.12%, Bali Island and Nusa Tenggara with 76.86%, Sulawesi Island with 71.64 percent, and Papua and Maluku in the last position with 69.26% of the internet penetration rate.

When compared to the previous year, after the COVID-19 pandemic, the internet penetration rate in Indonesia tends to experience a slight growth.

Zulfadli Syam as the General Secretary of APJII revealed that this insignificant growth is because internet providers mostly improve the quality of their internet services.

"This addition is not significantly increased because in some areas, internet providers are relatively improving the quality rather than entering difficult areas or areas," he said.
