JAKARTA - OpenAI announced a series of updates on ChatGPT, to support users' mental health, including a new feature that prompts users to take a break from the screen as the conversation session lasts too long.
"Starting today, you'll see a gentle reminder during a long session to push for rest," the company wrote in an announcement on its official website quoted Tuesday, August 5.
Appearing in pop-up form, the message will advise users to rest for a while, with the option to continue the conversation or end the session if they feel enough help.
This update is part of OpenAI's latest approach to making ChatGPT more useful in the long term, especially for users who rely on artificial intelligence (AI) for emotional and mental needs.
They are aware of several rare cases where the GPT-4o model fails to recognize signs of emotional or defamatory dependence from users. Therefore, the company continues to perfect its AI chatbot.
In addition, OpenAI also presents one major change in how ChatGPT responds to personal questions with high emotional nuances, for example the decision to end the relationship.
Instead of providing direct answers, ChatGPT will help users evaluate the situation through reflexive questions and pro-contra considerations.

A special advisory group was also formed to ensure this approach is in accordance with the latest mental health standards.
"This group will help ensure our approach reflects the latest research and practice," he concluded.
