JAKARTA Apple announced changes to the age rating system in the App Store, its app store. This update is implemented to make the level of application age category clearer.
In the new age rating system, Apple added three levels, including 13+, 16+, and 18+. This category will complement the pre-existing 4+ and 9+ age rankings.
Apple also explained that the application of this age standard will be adjusted to the standards of each region. Thus, this latest age rating category can further reflect parental control.
"The age rate is set for each country or region and can vary based on the special standard of suitability of the region," Apple said, quoted via 9to5mac on Saturday, July 26.

All apps on the App Store will also be re-established automatically with this latest ranking. This change is already visible in the latest iOS 26 beta version and other operating systems (OS) running the App Store.
If developers feel their app age rating is not up to their audience's target, developers can manually set it via the App Store Connect. This will help developers in ensuring rating accuracy.
To support this system change, Apple has also added a number of mandatory questions to app age rating questionnaires. This question includes in-app, ability, medical or health topics, and violent themes.
