Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said that his party was still in discussions with various stakeholders in making roadmaps for artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia.
Previously, Komdigi targeted that this roadmap would be completed in July. However, Nezar emphasized that the schedule was a deadline for Komdigi to discuss with various parties.
"Actually, it's not delayed, it's still on schedule. The schedule is until the end of July, we have discussions with stakeholders, then the results will be matched with the benchmarking we made, then it will be concluded later, then it will become a document," said Nezar when met at the Komdigi office on Monday, July 21.
Before being officially released, the draft will still be publicly tested first, to get input or response from the public.
"Later, after this discussion, we will conclude at the end of July, then later in August we will bring the draft to a public test. We hope that by the end of August it can be done," he said.
Along with the design of the AI roadmap, Nezar said, Komdigi is also designing a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) related to AI. What is expected is that the harmonization process will last until September this year.
Nezar has not disclosed what points will be regulated in this draft Presidential Decree. However, he emphasized that the main objective in this draft regulation is to provide rules that are related to the use of AI in the country.

"We need regulation, that's the first. Because the development of AI technology is so fast. From Generative AI, we are now talking about AI's agentic. Not to mention from AI's agency, according to a number of industry players in this field, they will go to physical AI," explained Nezar.
However, what is certain is that this regulation will serve as a guideline for all Ministries/Institutions regarding how AI adoption applies in their respective sectors.
"For example, in education, health, transportation, financial services, and others, also in agriculture, mining. We are seeing again the level of readiness for adoption to what extent and in what fields," he said.
