IPhone 17 Pro Will Use Vapor Chamber Cooling Technology To Overcome Excessive Heat

JAKARTA - Apple is reportedly preparing for major changes in the cooling system for the iPhone 17 line, by introducing vapor chamber cooling technology on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max models. If these rumors are proven true, then this will be the first time the iPhone has used the active cooling system.

So far, the iPhone has only relied on passive cooling that utilizes metal and glass bodies to remove heat. However, when used for heavy activities such as gaming or intensive AI processing, the device can overheat and issue a warning to be cooled before it can be reused.

This information was first revealed by leaker Majin Bu, who has a mixed track record in the accuracy of previous leaks. He claims that the vapor chamber cooling technology will debut in the iPhone 17, which is expected to be launched this fall. Even so, the design is said to be still in the development stage and facing several technical challenges.

This technology has long been used on many high-end Android smartphones. This system works by heating the liquid in a closed space until it evaporates, then the vapor spreads and cools back to liquid, spreading heat across the plate surface. This helps the device maintain a more stable temperature when performing high.

The well-known analyst from TF Securities, Ming-Chi Kuo, has already mentioned the possibility of using the vapor chamber on the iPhone 17 since August 2024. According to him, only the Pro and Pro Max variants will get this feature.

In addition to vapor chamber, Majin Bu also said that Apple will embed hot-spreading metal plates across devices to help regulate temperatures. Apple is also rumored to be turning to lighter frame materials such as aluminum, which has better absorption and heating.

So far, Apple has relied solely on thermal pasta, graphite sheets, and aluminum shielding to help reduce heat from processors and other internal components.

Majin Bu also added that the iPhone 17 will come in new pastel color options, including light purple and light green although this claim is also doubtful.

With the increasing need for power and processing due to new features such as Apple Intelligence, a more efficient cooling system is really needed in the next generation of iPhones.
