JAKARTA - Google is starting to test a new AI-based feature that is generative to display a summary of local weather conditions as users search for keywords such as weather on mobile devices. This feature appears in the form of a short summary card placed between an hourly forecast and a 10-day forecast.
By default, users will see two lines of text that can be expanded by tapping on the summary. At the bottom of the card, Google includes a warning that Generative AI is experimental, indicates that this feature is still in the testing and experimental stages.
For example, for mountainous areas and mountainlegs in Southern California, a summary of AI said there were strong winds and thunderstorms on Tuesday afternoon. The low-pressure system triggers extreme weather, including dry flares and backflows on the coast. Google also warns of potential fallen trees and fire risk due to dry lightning. However, conditions are expected to improve on Wednesday, June 4, with a trend of heating towards the weekend.
Users can also tap the link icon at the end of the summary to open a weather-related article sheet in the area a source Google uses to compile this summary, similar to the AI Overviews feature.
Unlike the AI Weather Report feature in Pixel 9 which is more like an application, the AI summary in the search results offers a more descriptive explanation and reviews weather conditions in depth.

This trial was observed to only appear for searches such as weather Los Angeles and weather San Diego, and has not been seen for other cities in California such as San Francisco. That is, this feature is likely to remain geographically limited and only available to some users who enter with Google accounts, both those that have activated the AI Overviews and more feature at Search Labs and those that have not.
It should be noted, this feature only appears in the results of mobile version of Google searches (both in the application and browser), and is not available in the full screen version of the Google Weather application.
With this feature, Google is increasingly expanding the application of generative AI to provide more contextual and easy-to-understand information directly from search results.
