JAKARTA - TikTok has finally stopped displaying search results for the hashtag #SkinnyTok, after being under public pressure and direct intervention from the French government.
France's Minister of State Digital Affairs, Clara Chataz, said that on April 18, she had contacted French authorities and the European Commission on thousands of content promoting extreme authorities that could potentially encourage eating disorders among teenagers, through the hashtag #SkinnyTok.

Then, Charlyne Buigues, a nurse who specializes in eating disorders appeared. This petition has attracted nearly 35,000 signatures. Chataz received the petition on May 2 at Bercy.
As a follow-up, Chataz made a visit to the TikTok Transparency and Accountability Center in Dublin on May 8. There, he demanded significant changes from the platform.
"Today, TikTok has just confirmed to me that they have finally removed this unacceptable hashtag from their platform," Chataz said in a statement on X.

Chataz said that the decision was the first collective victory, the result of community cooperation and cross-sectoral cooperation.
However, he emphasized that the struggle to protect children in cyberspace did not stop there. And I will not give up. Prohibiting social media before the age of 15 is my priority," he said.
