JAKARTA Samsung has reportedly started early development for the Galaxy Ring 2, the next generation of their first smart ring to be released in mid-2024. However, according to a report from the GalaxyClub, the device is still in its very early stages, so the launch in 2025 does not appear to be possible. This device is likely to come along with the Galaxy S26 series next year, or even later.

Unlike smartphones that have fast renewal cycles, smart rings are small devices with limited space for component upgrades. Samsung seems to choose to make gradual improvements, including:

A slimmer design

Better sensor accuracy

Longer battery life

Based on the previous patent, Samsung is considering a flexible ring design that allows sensors to follow the finger shape more accurately, so that health data can be monitored more precisely.

Not only that, a new patent also revealed that Samsung is exploring the gesture control feature. If successful, the Galaxy Ring can be used to control other devices such as laptops and tablets with just hand movements opening up functionality opportunities far beyond health tracking.

According to a report from Money Today in Korea, Samsung is developing a solid-state battery with an energy density of 360Wh/L. This technology can provide longer durability without adding to the size of the ring, and could be the flagship feature of the Galaxy Ring 2 if the technology is ready for mass production on time.

Samsung itself has not confirmed the specifications or official design of the Galaxy Ring 2. The only real development lately is the launch of a limited edition variant of Titanium Black from the first generation Galaxy Ring, which was released in South Korea as part of the Galaxy S25 Edge promotion.

Samsung does not seem in a hurry to release the Galaxy Ring 2. Unlike smartphones, smart rings benefit more from a meaningful improvement of technology than annual releases. If the Galaxy Ring 2 later brings a real improvement on health tracking and batteries without compromising comfort, Samsung could take a big step towards dominating this growing wearable ring market
