JAKARTA The DKI Jakarta PAdel management has again held a padel tournament entitled Ion Water Team Show Down with a big target of aiming for achievements at the National Sports Week (PON) in 2028.

The tournament, which was attended by hundreds of participants, took place on 10-11 May 2025 at the Ace Padel Club, West Jakarta. This is the third time the event has been held or the first in this year's calendar.

Chairman of Padel DKI Jakarta, Gino J. Koromopis, said that apart from mapping the athletes prepared to PON, this tournament was also held as an effort to develop padel sports in Indonesia.

"We want to introduce padel as a sport that needs to be learned. This sport is easy to play. We want to build a padel together so that it can be bigger," he said.

The Ion Water Team Show Down was recorded to be attended by 300 participants from the 40 team. During the two days, a total of 77 matches will be played.

Secretary General of Padel DKI Steven Walangtang revealed that in the future they will prepare to hold regional championships and junior championships to attract potential athletes.

"This has been running since 2024 as many as two series and this year there are three series. The number of participants has increased a lot. We want to produce padel athletes who are okay nationally and God willing, they will be born from DKI," he said.

The rapid development of padel in Jakarta so far is no less competitive with Bali. Currently, there are 40 padel lovers in Jakarta who have also penetrated. However, for padel athletes who are ready to enter professionals.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency (Kadispora) Andri Yansah promised to be ready to provide facilities support to the DKI PAdel in preparation for the 2028 PON later in East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara.

"When it comes to support issues, the DKI provincial government will definitely support whatever sports are developed, especially since this has been an exhibition at the Aceh-North Sumatra PON. In the future, the next PON, God willing, DKI will win the general election," he said.

The development of the padel in DKI Jakarta was also welcomed by former footballer Arthur Irawan, who also currently serves as Deputy Chairman of the DKI Jakarta Padel.

He said that padel is a very exciting sport to play. In addition, this sport also has a very strong community taste.

"There are also many of my friends here, even a lot of football players are playing padel. However, I am not a professional player in the padel. Even if I returned to being a professional player, it would be at Persik Kediri," he said.

He added that padel is also a sport that is very easy to play than tennis.

"Technically it takes more time to become a good player, while everything's sold out can start from scratch. It's anyone who starts to get it right away. It's easier. Personally, I prefer to play padel," he said.

Previously, a padel exhibition match had been held at the Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) in 2024 yesterday, in which Bali came out as the overall champion.
