JAKARTA - Jabil, a company from the United States that supplies AirPods casings to Apple, reportedly plans to expand its production capacity by building a second plant in the Tamil Nadu region, India.
This step is in line with Apple's efforts to increase production of its devices in India as an alternative to its dependence on China. Previously, it was reported that AirPods casings were one of the components that was being produced in India, and Jabil has long handled the production of chargers for the device.
According to a report from the Indian Economic Times, Jabil wants to significantly increase component production such as plastic body or casing from AirPods. This planned new plant will appear to only focus on component production, not a complete charging unit.

Although Jabil has not provided official confirmation, a source familiar with the plan said that the company intends to build a facility in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, also known as Trichy. In April 2025, Jabil executives were reported to have met with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, MK Stalin, and visited the planned location.
"Jabil is considering Trichy as the location for AirPods production," said one source. They are expected to give the state government a final decision at the end of June or July.
To note, the main production of AirPods has now been diverted to India and handled by Foxconn. In addition, Foxconn is also planning an expansion of iPhone production in the same country, strengthening India's position as Apple's main manufacturing hub in Asia,
