Responding to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI), the Ministry of Communication and Digital is preparing an AI roadmap to create AI governance in Indonesia.

The Director General of Digital Ecosystems at the Ministry of Komdigi, Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, emphasized that the preparation was carried out starting this year.

"We are trying to change the new AI roadmap for developments nationally. It will start this year," Edwin said in a statement at the Jakarta Agentforce World Tour event from Salesforce on Thursday, April 10.

The preparation of this AI roadmap is carried out to find the best formula in making appropriate AI regulations in the country.

Previously, the Deputy Minister of Communication and Trade, Nezar Patria, had also said the same thing. Where the AI roadmap is targeted to be completed in the next three months.

Nezar admitted that the government had organized various discussion forums and collaborated with stakeholders to ensure that the roadmaps were compiled comprehensively.

He also appreciated the various studies that have been carried out by various institutions for providing recommendations in the preparation of more inclusive AI governance.

"I think here the importance of studies made by friends to create a kind of mapping or mapping of Indonesia's position," he said.

Nezar also emphasized that the Government will implement incentive-based and flexible regulations to encourage the implementation of AI without creating a high compliance burden.

"We don't want to also hinder the innovations that are being carried out because considering the dynamics of this AI character," he said.
