JAKARTA - Expert Kaspersky analyzed a credential leak on the dark web between 2019 and 2024 for three popular entertainment platforms: Roblox, Discord, and Netflix.
The analysis reveals that, on average, 7 percent of users worldwide who have leaked accounts have registered on this platform using the company's email address.
Kaspersky experts also found that banking employees most often register their office email addresses on streaming services, online platforms and social networks.
In some cases, the company's email is also used as a login on game platforms and adult content websites.
"Registing on various services for personal use by office email is not the best practice," said Sergey Shcherbel, an expert at Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence.
The reason is, because according to Sergery, you can lose access to this account if you change jobs. In addition, it can pose a security risk to you and your company.
"If your password follows a predictable pattern in various services, for example, 'World 2025!', where '2025' is a recurring part it increases the chances of other accounts being compromised, including your company's account, if your company's email is exposed in a dark web leak," he explained.
