JAKARTA - Google has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to become a virtual collaborator for biomedical scientists. This was revealed by the well-known technology company from the United States on Wednesday, February 19.

This new tool, which has been tested by scientists from Stanford University in the United States and Imperial College London, uses advanced reasoning capabilities to help scientists compile information from various literature and produce new hypotheses, according to Google.

AI is increasingly being used in the workplace, from answering phone calls to conducting legal research, following the success of ChatGPT and similar models in the past year.

Google's AI unit, DeepMind, makes science a priority. DeepMind boss, Demis Hassabis, even became one of the recipients of last year's Kimia Nobel Prize thanks to the technology developed in the unit.

In an experiment on liver fibrosis, Google stated that all approaches suggested by this new co-scientist AI show promising activity and potential to inhibit disease causes. This tool also demonstrates the ability to improve solutions made by experts over time, Google added.

"While these are preliminary findings that require further validation, they demonstrate promising potential for advanced AI systems to help and accelerate the work of expert scientists," Google said.

Scientists involved in the project say that the tool will complement, not replace, researchers. "We hope this will improve, not reduce, scientific collaboration," said Google scientist Vivek Natarajan.
