Failed To Master OpenAI, Elon Musk's Offer Worth IDR 1.5 Trillion Was Rejected

JAKARTA Elon Musk, the billionaire who controls platforms X and Tesla, plans to buy OpenAI worth US$97.4 billion (Rp1,593 trillion), but the board of directors rejected the purchase plan.

OpenAI chairman Bret Taylor, on behalf of the board of directors, said OpenAI leaders agreed to reject offers from a consortium led by Musk. Taylor insists that OpenAI will not be sold, both at this time and in the future.

"OpenAI is not for sale and the board of directors has unanimously rejected Mr. Musk's latest attempt to disrupt his competitors," Taylor said via the OpenAI account on Friday, February 14.

According to OpenAI, Elon Musk submitted a purchase plan to bring down the company. The owner of Neuralink is believed to want to block OpenAI's plans to become a profit company.

OpenAI, at the end of December, said it would overhaul the company's structure and turn into a profit-seeking startup. The company's system reshuffle is also related to the company's technological development.

By changing the company structure, the board of directors will also remove a number of restrictions so that OpenAI can develop without thinking about funds. They will secure more capital to make more advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI).

"Any potential reorganization of OpenAI will strengthen our non-profit organization and its mission to ensure AGI benefits all mankind," Taylor explained.

If Musk controls OpenAI, the billionaire wants to end his company's restructuring plan. Musk also wants to keep OpenAI as a non-profit company. This action is considered to be blocking the company's development.

Before Taylor revealed the decision of the board of directors, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had firmly rejected Musk's offer. On February 10, Altman replied to the consortium's offer by tweeting 'No, thank you' on platform X.
